“We must protect our children against the insidious, destructive and negative effects of new communication channels”

Speaking at the Science Dissemination Awards Ceremony, President Erdoğan said: “The principal reason why societies in many parts of the world, especially in Western countries, are worried about their future is that they see new generations slipping away. We, too, must protect our own children against the insidious, destructive and negative effects of the new communication channels that are rapidly surrounding us with technology.”     President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered a speech at the Science Dissemination Awards Ceremony at Atatürk Culture Center in Istanbul. Voicing his happiness to attend the third ceremony of the biennial event and congratulating the awardees, President Erdoğan said: “This year, in addition to the categories of the previous years, we are presenting a special award to Prof. Aziz Sancar on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Science Dissemination Foundation. We express our gratitude to Prof. Aziz Sancar for his services to our country and especially for his contributions to broadening the horizons of our youth.” Pointing out that a nation's ability to survive and look to its future with confidence depends on the qualifications of its next generations, President Erdoğan said: “The principal reason why societies in many parts of the world, especially in Western countries, are worried about their future is that they see new generations slipping away.” “WITH THE WIDESPREAD USE OF FOREIGN SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS, WE HAVE WITNESSED A SERIOUS MORAL EROSION” “We, too, must protect our own children against the insidious, destructive and negative effects of the new communication channels that are rapidly surrounding us with technology,” President Erdoğan said. “Recently, with the widespread use of foreign social media platforms, we have witnessed a serious moral erosion and even corruption. Again, through these platforms, we witness that deviant movements that distort and destroy our national structure have begun to spread to our society. In the fight against these, the biggest task falls to our institutions such as the Science Dissemination Society and Foundation, which have a cause, a concern, and a sense of civilization.” “We first need to take a look at how we got to today, again inspired by our teacher Sabahattin Zaim,” President Erdoğan said. “As you know, three important developments in the last century led to radical changes in people's lives. One of them is the automobile; it took people out on the streets. The second is television; it brought people back into the house. The third is the internet, which trapped people in a digital world.” Noting that two important elements, namely human upbringing and production, have sustained societies for thousands of years, President Erdoğan said: “People are raised in the family. Production is done in economic enterprises. If good people are raised in the family, halal sustenance will be produced in the enterprise. Halal sustenance also leads people to prosperity.  Societies that do not pursue happiness in their families and prosperity in their businesses are doomed to deteriorate and eventually collapse. We should evaluate the attacks on the family institution in the world and in our country from this perspective.  Halal sustenance and the prosperity it brings cannot come out of a structure that raises individuals who are slaves of their ego and greed as opposed to good people.”
