“Israel is now heading towards isolation”

Speaking to reporters on his way out of Hz. Ali Mosque in Istanbul, where he performed the Friday prayer, President Erdoğan said: “Israel is now heading towards isolation. This isolation will only further grow in the days ahead.” President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan answered reporters’ question after performing the Friday prayer at Hz. Ali Mosque in Istanbul. DEVELOPMENTS ABOUT F-16 ISSUE Asked about his recent phone call with U.S. President Joe Biden, President Erdoğan said: “As you know, I had an extensive call with Mr. Biden yesterday evening. The main topic of the call was the developments related to the F-16 issue. Noting that he has a positive perspective regarding the developments about the F-16s, Mr. Biden stated that he is ready to make all the relevant proposals to the Congress on the issue. The only issue for them, particularly as regards our stance on the Sweden issue... They said they attach great importance to the decision our Parliament is to make about Sweden. We told them that our Parliament has an honest approach towards the Sweden issue but that Sweden must take under control its stance on the terror issue. The decision has already passed the parliamentary committee. What is more, the Committee on Foreign Affairs is managing the process with the Congress.” “IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO EXPECT GOODWILL FROM ISRAEL” In answer to a question about the U.S. stance on Gaza, which was on the agenda during his phone call with U.S. President Biden, President Erdoğan said: “We extensively discussed the Gaza issue. The developments in Gaza, including the killing of over 18 thousand children, elderly people and women, as well as the destruction of schools, mosques and churches... We discussed how humane those acts are. We told them ‘The U.S, particularly you must step in’. Unless you step in, there is a crime against humanity, a crime against conscience. We, for sure, cannot stand idly by. We told them that we will continue to do whatever we can. I discussed these issues with him.”  In response to a question about Israel’s rejection of a ceasefire in Gaza, President Erdoğan said: “It is impossible to expect goodwill from Israel at this point. However, what actually matters is to see how the entire world views Israel now. As a matter of fact, please remember that 121 countries opposed Israel initially at the United Nations General Assembly and they acted with us. 40 countries abstained at that time and 10 countries, including the U.S., stood by Israel. Yet, now the tide has turned and the number of these 121 countries acting with us has increased significantly, which shows that Israel is now heading towards isolation. This isolation will only further grow in the days ahead.” Answering a question about the possible purchase of the Eurofighter Typhoons, President Erdoğan said: “Our Defense Ministry is continuing its talks with its counterparts regarding the Eurofighters. These talks are continuing. We hope these talks progress in a positive direction.”
